#5. Shift Worship
In my first ministry in which I had a video projector and worship software, great video background loops were gold. They came only in expensive DVD sets that usually contained about two videos I liked, three I could tolerate and another 20 that should’ve been used at Abu Graib prison to get the captured terrorists to talk. (The alleged meanies would’ve been begging for a leisurely day of waterboarding after those things looped a dozen times.)
Fast forward a couple years to my second church, and SermonSpice is out. Now, I could ignore the cheese and pick out the good ones à la cart. And download them. But pay upwards of $20 a clip. Ouch.... As a worship pastor in a smaller church, I had to REALLY want that clip. So scarcity still ruled.
But then I caught wind of a site called Shift Worship. And I could pay one price and have all the videos I wanted. At the time, the subscription price for a year was so ridiculously low that even my miserly treasurer thought I’d be dumb not to do it.
Did they offer clips of linebackers tackling people in order to get people to come to Jesus (and the Easter service)? No, but I got all the stills and videos I wanted for a year for what two or three single purchases used to cost me.
Fast forward two more churches (I really can’t keep a job) and I’m still a subscriber. The price has gone up, but so has the quality and selection. They offer their stills videos in multiple formats and have good number of “mini-movies” for sermon illustrations or worship starters.
Right now you might be giddy with the thought that Shift will only cost you $29 (since, you know, the title of the blog would suggest that). But currently the subscription price is $149/year.
BUT, break that down over 12 months and it’s only $12 bucks and some change. Even if you only downloaded one or two products a month, you’ve paid for the subscription.
There are other players in the subscription game now, but none, IMO, are as reasonably priced, especially for what they offer. Broken down monthly, Shift Worship is a fantastic worship tool for less than half of our $29 ceiling.
(By the way, this is not a paid endorsement nor are these affiliate links to Shift. I just like 'em.)
#6. Battery Tester
Want something you can buy with the handful of change sitting on your dresser? Worship Tool #6 is right up your alley.
I used to get sick of running back to the board every time I wanted to test the batteries in my various wireless units. Then I realized for 7 or 8 bucks and trip to Radioshack I could have one onstage. And if you abhor going into RadioShack as much as I do, spend about the same, including shipping, and buy one on Amazon.
I now keep one onstage and one in my travel gear. Will it make you a better worship leader? No, but it will give you peace of mind knowing that the battery in your in-ear receiver won't poop out mid-service. So, maybe it will make you a better worship leader...
(Disclaimer: I do not own the model shown here - but the reviews are decent)
7. Try Tri-Leadership
Ever been part of a “worship committee?” Then you’ll like what I have to say next:
Fire your worship committee.
Worship committees are nice ideas formed with good intentions. But like any committee, they are given too much authority with no accountability for responsibility. The buck doesn’t stop there.
Try [Tri] Leadership (Creating Workable Model for Co-Leadership) will help you create a leadership team that is based on strengths and gifting. It’s glued together with the right mixture of responsibility (specific roles) and authority (permission to carry out that role) within an accountability structure.
While written for smaller churches without paid worship staff, it can also be adapted for worship pastors and directors seeking to develop a team of leaders to share the ministry.
It’s an easy read, geared for the busy senior pastor or the ADHD musician trying to lead the team in his spare time.
At only $5, you don’t have much to lose on this ebook. And since it’s a WorshipTeamCoach.com product, I’ll gladly refund your money if you find it’s not helpful.
Affiliate Disclosure: just wanted to let you know that many of the links are affiliate links to these products on Amazon. If you click-thru a link and purchase that item, I get untold riches. "Untold" because I'm not sure how to do the math on such a small percentage.
