Leadership and Ministry Coaching

Here at WorshipTeamCoach, "coaching" is our middle name. (Actually, it's our last name, if you don't count the .com and the wrong verb tense. But you get the idea...) We like to help teams, pastors, and leaders find and walk the path that will change their ministries.  Here's Jon's perspective on coaching.

As a Leadership and Ministry Coach, I will NOT...

...just give you advice and tell you what to do. A coach helps people learn and discover their own way. I'll help you develop your leadership and map out the path that you believe God is calling you to. As an outsider, I'll probably  see some blind spots and offer a fresh perspective. But I also don't forget that I am an outsider. God has called you to lead this. You know your people and your ministry the best.

...be the expert that fixes your problems. God has given you everything you need right now to grow and change your ministry. I'm just here to help you discover what that is.

...sell you a "one-system-fits-all" approach to worship leadership and ministry. I believe every leader needs to use systems to run his or her organization. But your ministry is unique. Your team and your leaders are unique. There are leadership and organizational principles that apply universally, but the systems to support those principles will be different for each ministry.

Coaching or Consulting?
Have you heard that a consultant is someone who takes the watch off your wrist and tells you the time? That's the well-earned stereotype of consultants. But there is a time and place to bring in an outside voice.

While there are lines that blur, I look at consulting and coaching as two different roles. Coaching, for me, is more about working with an individual to help him or her change and grow. Through that the organization changes and grows. Consulting is usually a shorter process where I help an organization deal with a specific issue or challenge. For instance, a church might need help hiring (or firing) a worship/music director/pastor, dealing with interpersonal issues within the worship team, creating and implementing a recruiting and audition process, developing a "one team" mindset among the techs and musicians, etc. I'll help your team or ministry navigate through these specific challenges.
